As Nightfall’s guests, what can we expect?

Firstly, you can leave behind the ‘busy’!

The Nightfall experience is an opportunity to stop. Our style of wilderness living has been called primitive luxury. Time has no meaning and there’s space to re-ground and reconnect heart, body and spirit … coaxed along by our rugged mountain setting, a gentle flow of wholesome fire-cooked food, relaxation, and as much, or as little, adventure and company as you desire. You set the pace.

Is our tent away from others?

Yes,  your tent is nestled in its own private clearing,  on the forested hillside above Christmas Creek.   Playing on the word ‘penthouse’,  you might like think of it as a raw-luxe ‘Tent-House’.

Inside your 62m2 retreat you’ll discover a simple, peaceful space:  think relaxing under-canvas in your king bed;  enjoying the feel of  high-quality soft linen, with certified-organic cotton and wool bedding and decadent merino blankets.  From the vantage-point of your  tin bath, or as you stand under the indoor-outdoor rain-head shower, you can watch birds frolic in the trees outside.  Your tent also has a  flushing toilet,  lounge, micro-kitchen and bar-fridge with complimentary gourmet organic treats.  In winter, nothing beats cozy evenings in-front of your  fireplace.   In the late afternoon, you can sip a quiet beverage on your private deck,  admiring the sun set on the dramatic cliff-face opposite.

What other facilities do you offer?

Nightfall’s guest lounge is our communal guest hub,  with coffee, small library and open fire.  There’s wifi internet in the lounge, as well as a choice of games and beverages.

What clothes do we bring?

Nightfall is relaxed:  casual clothes with something warm for  cool evenings. Potentially include slippers for evenings/mornings in your tent,  footwear suitable for walks, swimwear and thongs, but no high heals (the camp lounge has a gravel floor).   The nearest shops are 45km away (Beaudesert, Rathdowney) so try to include all necessities you feel you cannot do without.

What about the food?

The weather and seasons determine how we eat.  Nightfall’s romantic Dining on the Rapids evening meal is a fairy-tale experience, with meals served on the creekside ‘beach’.  But, if it’s rainy or cold, we’re cozy’d up at the shared-table,  beside the main lounge fire. It’s a wonderful ‘dinner party’  vibe.

Nightfall’s organic food is based on fresh-seasonal produce (organic and local where possible),  ordered as-required and cooked by your hosts.   Instead of a menu,  we cater to individual preferences.   Before your stay, we’ll confirm your food tastes and dietary requirements.

A two-night weekend package includes two evening meal experiences  (canapes, three-course fire-cooked meal, with a complimentary bottle of wine each night);   a two two-course breakfast each morning and a backpack picnic lunch on your middle day.  There’s also a bottle of Australian sparkling wine in your tent fridge,  an antipasto platter,  tea,  coffee and a few snack treats.

What can we do each day?

Guests at Nightfall do as much or as little as they’re inclined. Relax in your tent, watch the birds play in the trees outside, the wallabies feed,  or soak-up the oxygen-rich air of the creek’s tumbling rapids. Almost all year-round,  we  enjoy a swim in the deep swimming hole beside the main lounge or the surrounding hidden rock-pools.  It’s also nice to rock-hop along our private section of creek. Hardest of all is to do nothing!

For a true wilderness adventure,  grab your picnic lunch and head further afield: for views back to Brisbane and Sunshine Coast, climb to Buchanan’s Fort – at the top Nightfall’s 257 acres; to discover stunning Piccabeen palm rainforest and a taste of local history,  venture into the main section of Lamington National Park visiting Westray’s Grave,  Larapinta Falls and more (via unformed tracks);  or take  a pleasant 15-minute  bushwalk/rock-hop from the camp to our secluded Platypus Pond swimming hole and Nightfall’s little spring waterfall (which varies from a trickle to a generous flow).

Will we get phone and internet coverage?

Nightfall has intermittent mobile phone coverage.  We’re happy for you to provide close family with our landline phone number (07 5544 8070).  Free NBN Satellite wifi is available from Nightfall’s main lounge.  We’d be grateful if you could avoid download-heavy activity, as our service is limited.

What about the pampering?

Yes,  at Nightfall you can enjoy a truly ‘wild’ relaxation massage –  beside the tumbling waters of our creek or in the quieter surrounds of your tent.   Please let us know if you would like to add massages,  beauty therapies or personal yoga sessions to your package.

How do we personalise our Nightfall experience?

As Nightfall hosts,  it’s helpful to know a few of your preferences before you arrive –  that way we’re not bombarding you with questions.  An email questionnaire,  sent in the welcome pack a fortnight before your stay,  offers a couple of choices relating to meals,  alcohol and wellness therapies.

Is there wheelchair access?

Due to the steep access to each tent and the uneven surface, Nightfall is not suitable for wheelchairs.

Check -in

Check-in is from 2pm. Unfortunately, the intimate nature of our camp (we’re only a small team) means we’re unable to accommodate early arrivals.
